Full Review
Rather than being a substantial redesign (which usually comes once every 3-4 years), the GoPro Hero 11 Black is more of an incremental upgrade over the Hero 10. So, don’t expect any changes in terms of the physical design of the camera. It looks exactly the same as the Hero 10 with an 11 (obviously) replacing the 10 painted on the side.

But there are many improvements in the camera, like some extra shooting modes, a boost in megapixels, a larger new image sensor, and more. Have a look at all that’s new and improved on the Hero 10 Black.
What’s New on the GoPro Hero 11 Black?
SuperView up to 5K60/4K120
SuperView is available right up to 5K60/4K120 in Hero 11. In comparison, 4K/60 was the max for SuperView in Hero 10.
Boost in Image Resolution
Hero 11 shoots still images at a 27-MP resolution, which is a significant upgrade over Hero 10’s 23-MP.
Larger Image Sensor
Hero 11 Black comes with a larger 1/1.9-inch sensor (versus a 1/2.3-inch sensor in the Hero 10 Black). It comes with a native 8:7 aspect ratio.

GoPro Hero 11 Release Dates
The GoPro Hero 11 was released on September 16, 2022. Normally GoPro releases one model per year, check out all the GoPro release dates (for all the models) and expected release date for the GoPro Hero 13.
Design
As already mentioned, the GoPro Hero 11 Black is identical to the Hero 10. There isn’t any radical change in the design of the camera. The only difference you’ll notice is that an 11 replaces the 10 painted on the side of the camera. Everything else – including buttons, a 2.27-inch front display, battery compartment, USB-C port, and micro-SD slot – remains the same.
Despite featuring an Enduro battery and a larger sensor, the new GoPro Hero 11 Black is the same size and weight as the 10 Black. Like Hero 10, it weighs 153 grams and features exactly the same dimensions. Therefore, it works with the Media Mod and Max Lens Mod too.

Image/Video Resolution
In the GoPro Hero 11 Black, the image sensor has gone up from (Hero 10’s) 1/2.3 to 1/1.9 inch with a native 8:7 aspect ratio. This means that you get more pixels to play with. As a result, the still images receive a boost from (Hero 10’s) 23 megapixels up to 27 MP. Plus, you also get 10-bit color across the board.
When it comes to videos, the Hero 11 Black can shoot 5.3K videos at 60FPS, 4K at 120FPS, and 2.7K at 240FPS. Although these resolutions might appear the same as the Hero 10 at first, you’ll be pleased to know that SuperView is now available right up to 5K60/4K120 in Hero 11. In comparison, the Hero 10 Black maxed out at 4K/60 for the SuperView FOV. TimeWarp 3.0 is also improved. It can now capture at 5.3K resolution.
Plus, there’s another interesting addition: HyperView. It offers the widest 16:9 FOV ever native to a Hero camera. This field of view is ideal for filming a first-person view of yourself biking, skiing, surfing, motorcycling, and similar activities.
GoPro Hero 11 Black Stabilization
The GoPro Hero 11 Black features HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization technology with an in-camera 360-degree Horizon Lock. It keeps your footage steady even if your camera rotates a full 360 degrees during capture. Horizon-leveling was already pretty good on the Hero 10. But now, with horizon lock, it’s absolute.
With HyperSmooth 5.0 on Hero 11, Horizon Lock is supported at up to 5.3K (16:9). Overall, Hero 11 Black’s stabilization is the best you’ve seen in any GoPro Hero camera.

Performance
The amazing GP2 processor ensures that the GoPro Hero 11’s performance is butter smooth always. Just like Hero 10, you’ll feel almost no lag whatsoever with the Hero 11, which is pretty great.
In addition, GoPro has upgraded the interface for the Hero 11 Black by adding an Easy Mode. As the name suggests, this is an optional simpler user interface for beginners. When Easy Mode is active, all you have to do is choose what you want to capture, set your field of view, decide whether or not you want to shoot slow motion, and hit record. That’s it!
Low Light
Despite an increase in the sensor size in Hero 11, GoPro doesn’t claim any significant improvements over Hero 10 when it comes to the low-light performance of the camera. But, Hero 10’s low light performance is also pretty good. So, nothing to complain about here!

Is GoPro Hero 11 Black Worth Upgrading To?
With its new 8:7 sensor, improved battery life, awesome stabilization with horizon leveling, and a simplified interface, GoPro had upgraded its popular Hero range in a powerful way with the Hero 11 Black.
Therefore, it’s definitely a great idea to get the Hero 11 Black.
Whether you should upgrade to Hero 11 or not is another story. It actually depends upon which GoPro Hero model you currently own.
If you have a Hero 10 Black, then I would say that you already own a pretty great action camera even by today’s standards. You need not upgrade to Hero 11.
But, for those who own an older model (Hero 9 and older), it’s time to get an upgrade! The advanced Hero 11 camera will surely offer a much more fluid experience and some epic shots for you like never before.
