There is a built-in directional mic on the upper corner of the Media Mod that reduces ambient noise. And secondly, if you wish to add an external mic, for that there is a 3.5mm mic port under a flap beside the shotgun mic. It also comes with an HDMI slot that is a USB-C port. For setting up an External Mic with your Media Mod, follow the below steps :

Step 1: After your mic is plugged in, from the main screen, swipe down to access the Dashboard.
Step 2: Tap [Preferences] > [Input/Output] > [Audio Input].
Step 3: Scroll through the options and choose the ones required.

Standard Mic (default) – Use standard non-powered mics.
Standard Mic+ – Increases standard non-powered mic sensitivity by 20dB if the audio is not loud enough.
Powered Mic – Use self-powered mics.
Powered Mic+ – Increases powered mic sensitivity by 20dB if the audio is not loud enough.
Line In – Use with audio equipment other than a mic.

 

Is Media Mod Worth Buying It?


The Media Mod bulks up the camera and is particularly useful for those who wish to improve the audio quality of the output footage for example during live streaming.

Hero 11 does offer incomparable image stabilization but its audio capabilities lack a bit. Though the built-in directional mic is good but adding a Media Mod along will show noticeable improvements.

The only downsides to this accessory are, the added price and it interferes with the waterproofing. But other than that, it is an excellent pick for all Hero 11 users, especially the filmmakers and vloggers.
