With improving night shooting capabilities, the GoPro Hero 11 lets you show off the beauty of your surroundings even when it’s dark. With Night Lapse, you can capture how the world around you changes during the hours of darkness. As the name suggests, night lapse refers to time-lapse videos shot in dark and low-light environments.

GoPro Hero 11 Night Lapse is a superb tool to capture how beautiful your city or the place you’re visiting looks at night. In this guide, you’ll learn about all the GoPro Hero 11 Night Lapse settings.

What is GoPro Hero 11 Night Lapse?

Night Lapse is one of the three Time-Lapse presets on the GoPro Hero 11 Black. In this mode, Hero 11 can capture some amazing time-lapse videos in dark and low-light environments.

When the GoPro Hero 11 night-lapse mode is on, the camera allows for longer exposure time to capture clearer nighttime shots when there isn’t much available light around you. To achieve this, it automatically adjusts the shutter speed to let more light in and picks the interval that will give you the best results.

What are the best night setting for low light? Find the answer in this article.

In the night lapse mode, users can also manually choose different shutter speeds depending on how lit their surroundings are at any given moment. Lower lighting usually needs higher exposures. This helps you capture more detail in the darkness. Brighter areas like city skylines under streetlights would require less intense photos since they’re already illuminated by artificial sources such as lamps and windows. But, in case you aren’t sure, you can set the shutter speed to ‘Auto’ and let your GoPro decide.

When the Night Lapse preset is ON, you can record 4K night lapse videos with a Wide digital lens. Note that to reduce blur when using Night Lapse, you should mount your camera on a tripod or place it on a stable surface where it won’t wobble or shake.

GoPro Hero 11 Night Lapse Effects

Here are the three new night lapse effects that have been introduced in GoPro Hero 11 Black:

#1. Star Trails

Star Trails uses the Earth’s rotation and the stars to create beautiful trails of light across the sky. Mount your camera to a stationary object or tripod, point it toward the night sky and let physics take over. Use the trail length effect to choose maximum, long, or short trail lengths.

#2. Light Painting

Light Painting uses a long exposure to let you create brilliant brush stroke effects with moving light. Mount your camera to a stationary object or tripod, grab a flashlight, glow stick, or another light source, and get creative.

#3. Vehicle Light Trails

Mount your camera to a stationary object or tripod and point your camera at moving vehicles to create stunning light trail footage. Be sure to use the trail length effect to choose maximum, long, or short trail lengths.

  • EV Comp: Used for fine-tuning exposure levels.
  • White Balance: Adjusting the overall color tone (the warmth of the lighting).
