Why Do My GoPro Freezes Up?


Is your GoPro freezing up while you recording? 

Well, I understand how frustrated this can be as you could loose all your footage :/

This issue may be caused by a couple of factors:

  • You are using a slow SD card. Use GoPro recommended SD cards (learn more).
  • Your GoPro is defected (contact GoPro support)

In the meantime, in order to unfreeze your GoPro, you need to reset it using its buttons. In this guide I’m going to show you how to reset GoPro easily.

 

Resetting GoPro to Factory Default


This could be the best way to remove any issues from your GoPro which are hindering its performance. There are many such scenarios, when you’ll want to reset your camera back to default settings and most importantly, when your GoPro suddenly freezes.

The first and the easiest method is, press and hold down the shutter button (the top button) while the GoPro is off. While still holding the shutter button, press the power button (on the front of the camera) for a few seconds. The camera will now power on and it will reset to the original settings. Follow below steps for restoring factory settings for different GoPro models.

GoPro Hero 12/ 11 / Hero 10 /Hero 9

To reset your GoPro Hero 9 or Hero 10 to factory default settings, follow these simple steps:

  1. Power on your GoPro camera.
  2. On the main screen, swipe down to access the Dashboard.
  3. Tap on the “Preferences” icon (shaped like a gear).
  4. Scroll down the Preferences menu and tap on “Reset.”
  5. You’ll see two options: “Reset Presets” and “Factory Reset.” Select “Factory Reset.”
  6. A confirmation message will appear, asking if you’re sure you want to reset your camera to its factory settings. Confirm by tapping “Yes.”

Your GoPro Hero 9 or Hero 10 will now reset to its original factory settings. This process will remove any custom settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and personal information stored on the camera. Keep in mind that any media stored on the SD card will not be affected by the factory reset.

GoPro Hero 8 / MAX

  1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
  2. Tap Preferences > Reset> Factory Reset.
  3. Select Confirm Reset.

GoPro Hero 7 Black, Silver, White

  1. Go to the camera’s main screen and swipe down.
  2. Tap Preferences > Reset> Factory Reset.
  3. Select Confirm Reset.

GoPro Hero 6 Black and Hero 5 Black

  1. Go to the camera’s main screen and swipe down.
  2. Tap Preferences > Factory Reset > Reset.
  3. Select Confirm Reset.

Reset GoPro Fusion

  1. Press the Mode button to power on the camera.
  2. Go to Settings, by pressing the Mode button repeatedly.
  3. Press the Shutter button once, to select Settings.
  4. Go to Preferences, by pressing the Shutter button repeatedly.
  5. Again, press the Mode button repeatedly until you get to Reset,
  6. Then press the Shutter button to select it.
  7. Press the Mode button to highlight Reset.
  8. Press the Shutter button to select Reset and complete the process.

Reset GoPro HERO5 Session

  1. Turn off the GoPro and press the Menu button to turn on the status screen.
  2. Go to Exit Menu, by pressing the Menu button repeatedly.
  3. Press and hold the Shutter button for eight seconds.
  4. Press the Menu button to select Yes.
  5. Press the Shutter button for completing the process of setting it back to camera default.

GoPro Hero 4

  1. Press the Mode button until you see the ‘Setup’ gear icon.
  2. Press the Shutter button once to select it.
  3. Press the Mode button repeatedly to go to Reset Cam.
  4. Press the Shutter button once to select it.
  5. Again, press the Mode button to highlight Reset and Shutter button once to select it.

Note: Restoring the factory settings will not delete any content from your SD card or have any effect on your camera’s software. There’s a separate menu option to reset the GoPro’s date and time, clear connections.

Restore Presets to Default

This will reset all of your camera’s original preset settings to the defaults.

  1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
  2. Tap Preferences > Reset > Reset Presets.

Note: Restoring your camera’s original preset settings to their defaults will delete your custom presets.

Reset to Camera Default

To only reset the Camera Defaults. This option is not available for GoPro Fusion, GoPro Hero 4 and below models.

  1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
  2. Tap Preferences > Camera Defaults > Reset

Resetting Connections

This will clear your device connections and reset your camera’s password. Resetting connections means you’ll have to reconnect all of your devices.

  1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
  2. Tap Preferences > Connections > Reset Connections.
