Does the HERO7 Black shoot 4K at 60fps?
Yes, but only in the 16:9 aspect ratio – switch to 4:3 and it caps at 4K30. I reach for 4K60 on tripod-mounted or handheld shots that need to survive stabilization or reframing in post, since it holds detail better than 4K30 when you slow the footage down slightly.
What’s the fastest slow-motion setting on the HERO7 Black?
1080p240 is as slow as this camera goes, giving roughly an 8x slowdown on 30fps playback. I use it for surfing, wave impacts, and fast action where I want buttery slow motion, but remember Auto Low Light will quietly drop the frame rate in dim conditions, so shoot in good light if you need the full 240fps.
Does the HERO7 Black have TimeWarp 2.0?
No – TimeWarp 2.0, with its variable-speed and pause tricks, arrived with the HERO8 Black in 2019. The HERO7 Black only has the original TimeWarp, where you pick one fixed speed (2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, or 30x) rather than having it auto-adjust mid-clip.
What FOV should I use for aerial or drone-mounted GoPro footage?
Linear is my go-to for aerial shots because it removes the fisheye distortion that Wide and SuperView leave in, so horizons stay straight and the footage cuts more cleanly next to drone shots. Wide remains the better pick for handheld or body-mounted action where you want the widest possible field of view.
Is HyperSmooth on the HERO7 Black as good as a gimbal?
It gets impressively close for handheld and body-mounted shots – I’ve run it side by side with a gimbal on biking and skiing footage and the gap is small for casual viewing. It’s not available in every resolution and frame-rate combination, so if rock-solid stabilization at max resolution matters most, drop to 4K30 or 2.7K60 instead of pushing for 4K60.
