Best GoPro HERO 10 Settings for Mountain Biking (MTB) Videos
Mountain Biking can sure give you an adrenaline rush and if you wish to share your awesome experiences with the world, you may want to give an extra edge to the videos. By just changing a few settings in the camera panel, you will be surprised to see how professional the output footage can get. Read on if filming, videography, and sharing your journeys excite you as much as being on them.
Resolution and Frame Rate
Resolution and Frame Rate are the parameters that are of utmost importance when comes to filming. Higher frame rates make the output smoother but can also slow down the footage. In terms of Mountain Biking, higher frame rates can make it look as if you are riding the bike slower than you are. GoPro HERO 10 is capable of 4K at 60fps, although 24 to 30fps may seem to be an ideal rate to capture the video at. But in situations where you want a slow-motion video, you may switch to 60fps.
Field of View
Out of the two FOVs, Linear and Wide, during Mountain Biking, the Wide-view is preferred more to capture videos. You may choose to stick with the standard wide view or switch to Superwide. The wide view angles are best to capture speed and the results are satisfactory. Though the wide-angle shots are a little cropped which can lead to a bit of distortion mainly at the edges, if you adjust the focus carefully, it proves beneficial in capturing videos of high speeds easily such as in Mountain Biking.
Exposure Value Compensation
EV Comp is a setting that is used to increase or decrease the brightness of your video. By default, the EV Comp is set to Auto which works well in capturing Mountain Biking Videos in most cases. When under shade, the videos in Auto mode prove to be of fine quality but in bright lights, the settings might need to be changed a bit. Mostly, bikers prefer the under-expose mode. GoPro HERO 10 offers a range set from -2.0 to +2.0. You can choose to keep the EV Comp setting in negative but if you do not want to adjust it again and again, you can leave it at 0.
White Balance
White Balance is a very important setting, especially while shooting Mountain Biking Videos. It adjusts the camera’s color sensitivity to match the prevailing color of light. The White Balance adjusts the Color Temperature based on the current lighting. It warms up the cooler tones and cools the warmer tones to provide a stable and natural output footage. By default, the HERO 10 adjusts this mode to Auto. Lower values mean warmer tones whereas, higher mean cooler tones. Setting it manually can help you in obtaining much more stable footage.
Here are the White Balance options that you can choose from:
Auto (default), 2300K, 2800K, 3200K, 4000K, 4500K, 5500K, 6000K, 6500K, and Native
Color
While shooting Mountain Biking videos with your HERO 10. The GoPro Color setting will be an ideal choice for all bikers. This setting helps to bring out the colors of the video and makes it look brighter and more appealing. But in high contrast environments, it would fail to give the desired results. So, the trick here is that you can choose a Flat color profile and later use color grading while editing the video.
ISO Level
ISO levels refer to the noise in the video or how sensitive your GoPro’s sensor will be to light. The ISO Minimum and Maximum values range from 100 to 6400. Higher ISO levels mean brighter images but greater noise whereas, lower levels mean darker images and less noise. So, the main task is to keep the ISO levels to the minimum possible value while maintaining the brightness levels. For Mountain Biking videos you can try setting the levels between 100/400 and 100/800.
Sharpness
Sharpness is a parameter that can affect your video to a huge extent. Increasing the sharpness levels digitally sharpens a video but over-sharpening can result in not so desirable output, especially in low light conditions. As mentioned above lower Frame Rates and a Wider view are preferred for capturing Mountain Biking videos at high speeds. The opposite can slow down a section of your video, similarly, over-sharpening can do the same to your output footage.
In order to make amazing videos you will need to mount your GoPro Hero 10 to your bike.
