Quick Take
DJI Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6 comes down to how you shoot and where you live. The Insta360 X6 is the stronger everyday camera: it shoots 5K in single-lens mode, its battery lasts about 40 minutes longer, and you can buy it in the US today. The Osmo 360 II wins on 8K60, 105GB of built-in storage and its UK price, but it still isn’t sold in the US.
DJI and Insta360 first launched their new 360 cameras a day apart in August, and on the spec sheet DJI looks like the easy winner: 8K at 60fps, 105GB built in, and a lower price in the UK. Then you find the one mode where the Osmo 360 II went backwards, and the picture changes. This DJI Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6 comparison covers the things that decide it day to day, plus which one you can actually buy where you live. Here’s how they stack up.
DJI Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6 at a Glance
Both cameras film everything around them at once, and you pick your shot later on your phone. The Osmo 360 II is DJI’s second 360 camera; I put the first one up against its rivals in GoPro Max 2 vs Insta360 X5 vs DJI Osmo 360. The Insta360 X6 comes from the brand that has been making these a lot longer than DJI has, and it uses Sony sensors the same size as DJI’s.

On the headline number, storage and price, DJI is ahead. On most of the things that decide it day to day, the X6 is the stronger camera.
The Single-Lens Problem
Single-lens mode is where you use just one side of the camera, like a regular wide action cam, so there’s nothing to reframe afterwards. The first Osmo 360 shot 5K60 in that mode. The Osmo 360 II is confirmed at 4K60, so it went down. The X6 does 5K30 at a really wide 170°, or 5K60 if you pull the field of view in.
If you always shoot proper 360 and reframe everything on your phone, this doesn’t affect you. But if you’re anything like me, you end up in single-lens mode a lot, because it’s fast and there’s nothing to edit after. In that half of your shooting, the DJI is now the lower-resolution camera. In the footage that’s out so far it still looks clean, but that’s daylight, and it’s still 4K instead of 5K.
Battery, Water and Low Light
Battery usually decides how your day ends. The X6 has a 2,600mAh battery rated at 140 minutes of 8K30. The Osmo 360 II has 2,150mAh rated at 100 minutes. Those 40 extra minutes are roughly the difference between getting through an afternoon and swapping halfway.
Water is the other thing people always ask about. The X6 is good to 20m on its own; the DJI goes to 10m, or 50m with its case. Ten meters covers pretty much anything you’d do at the surface, and deeper than that you’re using a case either way, so this probably doesn’t decide it.
Low light is the one I’d worry about, and neither camera fixes it. My Action 6 has a variable aperture that opens all the way to f/2.0, and even with that I’ve hit the ceiling diving or just walking along the seafront in the evening. These two are fixed at f/1.9 and f/2.0, which is close enough to identical that you won’t see it. On lenses this small, I wouldn’t expect either of them to be great after dark.
Storage: Where the DJI Clearly Wins
There’s one thing the DJI clearly wins on, and it’s a big one if you travel. Both cameras take a microSD card, but the Osmo 360 II starts with 105GB usable already inside it, against 47GB on the X6. If you travel light and you’re not carrying spare cards, that matters more than it sounds.
Replaceable Lenses: I Got This One Wrong
Both of these have replaceable lenses now, and I need to come back to something I said in my DJI Osmo 360 II breakdown. I said that if I was starting from zero, I’d take the new DJI just for the replaceable lenses, because a scratched lens is what has always worried me about these cameras. That part I still believe.
What I didn’t mention is that Insta360 has had replaceable lenses since the X5, so it isn’t really a reason to pick DJI over Insta360. DJI has just caught up. On the X6, a replacement lens costs about $26.
On the DJI side, it’s too early to say how the swap holds up. Nobody has said whether you need a tool for it, or what happens to the waterproof seal after you’ve done it a few times. A lot of people are also asking whether the new lenses fit the first Osmo 360, and DJI hasn’t said anything about that either.
Color: D-Log M vs I-Log and Dolby Vision
The DJI shoots 10-bit D-Log M, and from what I’ve seen, DJI’s own figure for that profile is 13.5 stops of dynamic range. The X6 shoots 10-bit I-Log and is the first 360 camera with Dolby Vision built in. Both only matter if you grade your footage.
Price and Where You Can Buy Each One
This is the part that decides it for most people. The Insta360 X6 is $699.99 in the US and £619 in the UK, and it launched globally, so in most places you can order one today.
The Osmo 360 II got its global launch at IFA in Berlin on 3 September and started shipping in Europe in mid-September:
- Standard Combo: €589 / £509
- Adventure Combo: €739 / £639
On UK prices, that puts the Standard Combo about £110 under the X6, while the Adventure Combo costs a little more. The catch is still the US: DJI’s own US store only lists the first Osmo 360, with no Osmo 360 II page, no US price and no date. For the background on DJI products in the US, here’s the DJI ban in the USA explained.
DJI Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6: Which Should You Get?
If you’re in the US, go with the X6. It’s the only one of the two you can buy there, and it’s the stronger camera day to day anyway.
If you’re in the UK or Europe and you already own a DJI action camera and a set of its batteries, the Osmo 360 II makes sense now that it’s on sale there. You get 8K60, all that storage inside, batteries you already own, and color that matches the rest of your DJI footage.
If you just want a decent 360 camera without spending $700, the first DJI Osmo 360 is down to around $470 in the US, and it still gets you most of the way there.
It really comes down to whether you’re buying a camera or buying into a system. Personally, if I was picking one up this week, I’d take the X6, mostly for the extra 40 minutes of battery, and because it’s the one I could order today.
Is the DJI Osmo 360 II better than the Insta360 X6?
Not overall. The Osmo 360 II wins on 8K at 60fps (the X6 does 8K at 50fps), 105GB of built-in storage and its UK price. The X6 wins on single-lens resolution (5K vs 4K), battery life (about 140 vs 100 minutes at 8K30), waterproofing without a case (20m vs 10m) and availability in the US.
Can you buy the DJI Osmo 360 II in the US?
Not officially. As of October 2026, DJI’s US store only lists the first Osmo 360, with no Osmo 360 II page, price or release date. In the UK and Europe it has been on sale since mid-September 2026, from €589 / £509.
Do the Osmo 360 II and the Insta360 X6 both have replaceable lenses?
Yes. The Osmo 360 II is DJI’s first 360 camera with replaceable lenses, while Insta360 has offered them since the X5. A replacement lens for the X6 costs about $26.
Which has better battery life, the Osmo 360 II or the X6?
The X6. Its 2,600mAh battery is rated at about 140 minutes of 8K30 recording, against about 100 minutes from the Osmo 360 II’s 2,150mAh battery. That’s roughly 40 extra minutes per battery.
Do the Osmo 360 II lenses fit the original Osmo 360?
DJI hasn’t said. There’s no official statement on whether the Osmo 360 II’s replaceable lenses work on the first Osmo 360, so don’t count on it.
