Head-to-Head Comparison
Here’s how both the cameras fare when you do a head-to-head comparison between them:
Design
Design is the main area where the standard and Mini models of the GoPro Hero 11 series differ the most. As the name suggests, the Hero 11 Black Mini is a smaller and lighter version of the Hero 11 Black. While the standard Hero 11 Black measures 71.8 x 33.6 x 50.8mm, the Hero Black Mini is tinier at just 52.4 x 38 x 51.2mm. When it comes to weight, the Hero 11 Black weighs 153 grams as compared to Mini’s 133 grams.
The standard Hero 11 Black sports two color displays – one is a touchscreen on the back, while the other is a smaller 1.4-inch LCD display on the front. On the other hand, the compact Hero 11 Mini leaves no space for any display whatsoever.
On the Hero 11 Black, there’s a shutter button on the top, a speaker and folding fingers on the bottom, a Mode button and drain microphone on one side, and battery, USB-C, and SD card slots on the other side. However, the Mini version features a one-button design. All you need to do is point & shoot to record a 5.3K video. There’s no Mode button too. But, you can adjust video settings later in the GoPro Quik app. On the back of the Hero 11 Mini, you get a second pair of dual-mounting fingers.
Performance
When it comes to performance, the standard Hero 11 Black and Hero 11 Black Mini are hugely similar. Both cameras feature a new 8×7 sensor that’s capable of capturing 5.3K resolution video at 60fps or 4K at 120fps. In 2.7K resolution, you can also record up to 8X slo-mo shots. When it comes to still shots, 24.7-megapixel SuperPhoto HDR stills.
You get HyperSmooth 5.0 video stabilization with both cameras. Plus, there are three new night modes for time-lapse shots: Star Trails, Light Painting, and Vehicle Light Trails.

Battery
Both the Hero 11 Black and Mini pack GoPro’s new Enduro battery. It offers a big boost in cold temperatures and increases recording times by up to 38% in moderate temperatures. However, there’s a difference between the batteries of the two cameras. The Hero 11 Black’s battery is removable and has a 1720mAh capacity, whereas the battery that the Mini model sports is a non-removable one. Its capacity is 1500mAh.
How this difference in battery capacity translates into recording times is yet to be seen, considering that the Hero 11 Mini is still yet to come out. But, we expect a similar battery life in both the cameras, owing to the fact that the Mini model doesn’t have a display, which means that the battery drain will be lesser. That is expected to more or less compensate for the lower batter capacity in Mini.
Price
As expected, the GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini is priced lesser than the standard GoPro Hero 11 Black. Presently, the GoPro Hero 11 Black is available at $399.98 with a 1-year GoPro subscription or $499.99 without the subscription. The Hero 11 Mini, meanwhile, is expected to launch at about $100 lower – $299.98 with a 1-year GoPro subscription or $399.99 without the subscription.
So, if you want the cheapest GoPro, the Mini is your best bet. However, if you want a full-featured GoPro model, then you should go with the standard GoPro Hero 11 Black.
Which Camera Should You Get?
Both GoPro models – the Hero 11 Black and Mini – feature similar specs when it comes to video/photo resolution, stabilization tech, and performance. But, when it comes to the design of the camera, the Mini version of Hero 11 is more compact and it doesn’t feature any display. Also, the battery of Mini has a bit less capacity as compared to that of the standard Hero 11 Black. Coming to the price, the Hero 11 Black costs $100 more than the Hero 11 Black Mini.
Although both the models are superb, if you want to choose one of them, you’ll have to consider your own preferences. Since the standard Hero 11 Black is already pretty compact, it’s unlikely that you’d want to go with the Mini only due to its compact size. So, one of the main reasons why you would want a Hero 11 Mini would be its price. Therefore, if you want the cheapest GoPro with the good specs, the Mini is your best bet.
However, for those who want a full-featured GoPro model, the standard GoPro Hero 11 Black should be the top choice.
