DJI Pocket 2 vs GoPro Hero 11: Key Differences Explained

Listed below are the key differences between the DJI Pocket 2 vs GoPro Hero 11 Black cameras:

Design

DJI Pocket 2 has a slim hand-sized rectangular body. Attached to it is a single gimbal-mounted camera lens. Accessing the camera is very easy. It features a power button on the side and two other buttons around the small square display. There is a microSD slot on one side and a small slider between the screen and buttons to attach other mounts or accessories. It is waterproof up to 60 m with a waterproof case.

GoPro Hero Black 11 has almost a similar design to its predecessor. GoPro retains the signature look. It features a dual touchscreen on the front and back and the battery compartment, USB-C port, and micro-SD slot remain as they were in Hero 10. Hero 11 is waterproof up to 10m and comes with a replaceable hydrophobic lens cover. You can expand its waterproof characteristic up to 60 m by using a diving housing.

The Hero 11 has built-in fold-out mounting tabs and a weather-sealed body, making it more reliable than Pocket 2 to be used under conditions where there is a risk of exposure to water and dust.

Interface

GoPro Hero 11 comes with a simplified user interface for beginners though the core UI is the same. Using Easy Mode, you can easily access the main settings by selecting your FOV, slo-mo (if required), and start recording. Also, switching between different modes like Photo, Video, and Timelapse is extremely simple. The DJI Pocket 2 comes with a simple UI with large icons that make interaction intuitive.

Resolution

The GoPro Hero 11 is a bit more pricey than the DJI Pocket 2 but offers superb resolution for shooting professional-quality videos.  DJI Pocket 2 can shoot up to a maximum of 4K resolution and drops down to 1080p. It is good for shooting action videos due to its amazing gimbal stabilization. But, mounting it on helmets or chest becomes difficult.

GoPro Hero 11 can shoot videos up to 5.3K resolution, and 2.7K @ 240 fps. It can also shoot in SuperView at 4K 120 fps. The main difference is between the image sensor of the two models. Hero 11 offers 11MP more than DJI Pocket 2’s sensor. Though, DJI Pocket 2 has a 1.2x Larger sensor area than the GoPro Hero11 Black which means more control over the depth of field and blurry background. Hero 11 is a preferred option when comes to shooting in bright light conditions.

Stabilization

Offering an in-built 3-axis Gimbal image stabilization, the DJI Pocket 2 allows you to shoot sharper images, especially at longer focal lengths and slow shutter speeds. The Hero 11 Black comes with HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization system. Both cameras offer excellent stability. With DJI Pocket 2 you can enjoy crystal clear footage up to 4K 60 fps, the Hero 11 offers it at a whopping 5.3K 30 fps. An upside to GoPro Hero 11 Black is that it is compatible with ReelSteady and GyroFlow for adding stabilization in post-production.

Battery Life

When we compare the two models, there is a huge difference in battery life. The DJI Pocket 2 features a limited battery life. With a non-removable 875mAh cell battery life, it can handle shooting for approximately 140 minutes at a time. For extended sessions, you’ll have to carry a portable charger along. Battery life is a noticeable fallback in DJI Pocket 2 when compared to GoPro Hero 11.

GoPro Hero 11 Black comes with a 1720mAh capacity and can operate in cold weather conditions as low as minus 10 celsius. The company claims that it extends recording times up to 38% as compared to the previous model owing to the camera’s improved performance in cold to moderate temperatures. The camera takes approx. two hours to get fully charged. Apart from a bigger battery size, the Hero 11 Black’s Enduro Battery dramatically improves performance in cold weather conditions.

Price

When we talk about price, the DJI Pocket 2 is more pocket-friendly as compared to the GoPro Hero 11 Black. The Pocket 2 is priced at $349 whereas, the latter is available at $499.
