Ronin-S vs Ronin-SC: Detailed Comparison
Here’s the comparison of the DJI Ronin-S vs Ronin-SC:
Both Ronin-S and Ronin-SC are super-portable and feature a detachable design. This makes both the gimbals very convenient to transport. But, at 1.1 kg, the Ronin-SC weighs significantly lighter. It is also smaller and easier to carry than the Ronin-S, which weighs 1.84 kg. The Ronin-SC is about 41% lighter and 38% smaller than the Ronin-S. That’s why you can easily fit the Ronin SC into a case or a backpack.
Both gimbals are capable of handling temperatures between -20℃ – 45℃. The dimensions of Ronin S are 486mm×202mm×185mm, while the Ronin-SC features slightly smaller dimensions at 370mm×150mm×165mm.
Controls & Functionality
The Ronin-SC has been designed with new 3-Axis locks on the pan, roll, and tilt axis so you don’t have to face the hassle of balancing the camera each time you use it. This also makes transportation of the gimbal much easier. What’s more, you also get a new position lock balance on the Ronin SC, which essentially means that you can remount the camera and start shooting within seconds! Both these features are improvements after DJI considered the feedback they got on the Ronin S gimbal.
In terms of the rotation speed, the Ronin-S features a larger maximum controlled rotation speed of 360°/s on its pan, tilt, and roll axis. The Ronin-SC, on the other hand, features a speed of 180°/s on its pan, tilt, and roll axis. Both units have a controlled rotation range of 360° continuous rotation on their pan axis and ±30° roll axis control. The Ronin-S also features a wider tilt axis control, +180° to -90° (Upright Mode), +90° to -135° (Underslung and Flashlight Mode), whereas the Ronin-SC features a tilt axis control of -90° to 145°.
The Ronin-S features a tested payload capacity of up to 3.6 kg, while the Ronin-SC features a slighter lighter payload capacity of up to 2.0 kg. This difference in payload capacity is probably because the Ronin-S is mainly designed for DSLR cameras while the Ronin-SC is designed for mirrorless cameras.
Here are the features that are supported by both Ronin versions:
The Panorama feature lets you capture wide FOV (field of view) shots.
– Timelapse & Motionlapse
Timelapses and Motionlapses are effective techniques to display the passage of time and movement in a cinematic way.
– Sport Mode
Both Ronin gimbals feature Sport mode. This mode gives you the opportunity to keep fast-moving subjects in the frame and create unique transitions with ease.
In addition, the Ronin-SC also comes with some new, exciting features (which are not present on the DJI Ronin-S). Here are those:
– ActiveTrack 3.0
Ronin-SC is the first gimbal from the Ronin product line to support ActiveTrack 3.0 technology. Using the Ronin-SC Phone Holder, a smartphone attached above the camera is combined with the Ronin app and Ronin-SC to accurately track your subject. ActiveTrack 3.0 can be used to quickly select, track, and record a moving subject.
– Force Mobile
This Ronin-SC feature offers you a completely new way to control your gimbal. You can control Ronin-SC by moving your smartphone. Therefore, you get a unique, instinctive method of filmmaking.
Hinweis: Force Mobile is currently only available for iOS

So, Which Gimbal Should You Choose?
Both the gimbals are top-notch when it comes to quality, durability, and ease of transportation. But, if you want to make a buying decision, you should choose the gimbal that’s more compatible with your needs and preferences.
If you are using a DSLR camera for your projects and have more extensive lens setups and more ambitious shooting environments, the Ronin-S is an excellent choice for you. It’s a must-have handheld gimbal for event filmmakers, content makers, and DSLR camera owners.
If you’re a content creator who likes a lighter and more travel-friendly gimbal stabilizer, Ronin-SC is an essential addition to your equipment. The Ronin-SC gimbal is perfect for vloggers and wedding videographers who shoot on the move. It’s best for mirrorless cameras.
Another major factor that you should consider before making a buying decision is your budget. The Ronin-SC is considerably cheaper than the Ronin-S gimbal. So, if you aren’t willing to spend too much on a gimbal stabilizer, then the DJI Ronin-SC is a great option for you.
