The Ronin S Essentials Kit is, basically, a scaled-down version of the standard kit. This makes it accessible to a lot more users.
At the time of writing this post, the DJI Ronin S Essentials Kit costs $559, while the Standard Kit is more than $140 extra, carrying a price tag of $699. This difference in price, of course, comes with the fact that you get less in the box with the Essentials Kit than you do with the Standard offering.
As the name suggests, this one is an Essentials Kit for your Ronin S which offers you the right amount of equipment that you need to get your photography or filmmaking adventures. So, instead of buying the larger standard package which includes gear you might not necessarily need, you may be better off with this scaled-down version of it. Plus, you also get the option to pick and choose the accessories that you really want to add to your kit without having to buy all of them, as in the case of the Standard kit.

The main difference between the two packages – the DJI Ronin S Essentials Kit and Standard Kit – is that the Focus Wheel is absent in the Essentials Kit, but it does come as a part of the Standard kit. Another noticeable difference is that the extendable grip/tripod is made of plastic in the essentials kit, while the same is built with metal in the standard package.
Other things that are available in the standard kit but are absent in the Essentials kit include RSS IR Control Cable, Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C), Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-B), 24W USB Power Adapter, Accessories Box, Allen Wrench, and Hook-&-Loop Strap for Cable.
Should you buy the Essentials Kit for Ronin S?
If you’re looking forward to buying the DJI Ronin S, but find the price of the Standard DJI Ronin S kit out of your budget, then buying the DJI Ronin S Essentials Kit is definitely a great idea. You get all the useful accessories in the package that will let you shoot crisp and smooth footage of your action with the Ronin S gimbal.
One main drawback of the essentials kit is the absence of the Focus Wheel, which is a great accessory that mounts to the Ronin-S handle to help control camera focus. But, there’s a solution to that, too. You can get the Focus Wheel alone from the market. It’s currently priced on Amazon at $59.
