Build

What sets the GoPro Hero 12 Display Mod apart is its compact yet robust build, providing a sleek and unobtrusive appearance. Its foldable design makes it easy to carry and store, ensuring convenience for vloggers on the go.

Easy To Install

Moreover, it’s straightforward to install and compatible with various GoPro models, such as Hero 8, Hero 9, Hero 10, Hero 11, and Hero 12 (note, you will always need to use GoPro Media Mod to attach your Display Mod).

Drawbacks

Here are some drawbacks that make The Display Mod less useful for me:

Settings

One huge drawback I found is that when you rotate the Display Mod, your camera’s rear display is disabled, which can be very inconvenient. This limitation arises because the Display Mod lacks touchscreen functionality and doesn’t display settings. So you cannot adjust any settings, you should deactivate Display mode, adjust configuration, and then activate the Display Mod again.

Battery Life

Unlike the regular screen, it doesn’t go into sleep mode, which means it’ll continuously drain the battery. And you can’t view recording times from the back since that information is only available on the status.

Moreover, the Display Mod doesn’t adhere to the GoPro’s display timeout settings. It remains on until the GoPro is physically turned off. After which, the Display Mod shuts down about two minutes later.

This behavior contrasts with the standard settings where the displays enter sleep mode sooner to save battery life. To address this, consider investing in an extended battery to ensure uninterrupted filming.

GoPro Hero 12 Display Mod vs Front Display

For those who own the GoPro Hero 12 Black, you might be questioning the rationale behind investing in the Display Mod, considering your camera comes equipped with a native front-facing screen.

Size

The best thing about the Display Mod for me that it is way bigger than your front display. With content quality and framing at the core of vlogging success, having a larger canvas to work with can be a game-changer.

Touchscreen and Settings

The Display Mod isn’t a touchscreen and doesn’t provide any display settings or adjustment options. It solely shows your image. That’s its primary function. And it’s a pity as you always have to disconnect it in order to change the settings..

If you want to adjust anything, you can’t do that directly. You’d have to turn off the Display Mod, wait for it to disconnect, access the other screen, make your changes, and then turn the Display Mod back on.
