However, there aren’t many rumors about it on the internet, so what should we expect?
In this article, you’ll learn about my predictions for the Osmo Action 5 launch, and we’ll take a look at all the DJI Action Camera release dates over the years.
DJI Action Camera Release Dates
These are the DJI action camera release dates over the years:
- Azione DJI Osmo – May 15, 2019
- DJI Azione 2 – October 27, 2021
- DJI Osmo Azione 3 – September 14, 2022
- DJI Osmo Action 4 – August 2, 2023
- DJI Osmo Action 5 – Late summer – fall 2024?: Not Yet Announced
In the following section, we’ll see how DJI Osmo Action has evolved and what specs and features has been improved from DJI Osmo Action to DJI Osmo Action 4.
Over the years, DJI has launched some durable and action-packed cameras. The first one DJI Osmo Action had a classic design, while DJI Azione 2 was compact with a front display that proved to be very convenient but it came with its drawbacks.

From design to stabilization system and from battery life to mounting techniques, a lot of improvements and upgrades have been made in the newest model Action 4.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Release Date
Based on the rumors and speculations, the DJI Osmo Action 5 could be released in the late summer or fall of 2024.

- The introduction of AI processing similar to what is seen in Insta360 Ace cameras, which could offer advanced features and functionalities.
- Uscita HDMI for easier integration into live event productions, a feature that users have been requesting to make the Osmo Action cameras more versatile and reliable for professional use.

Design
Similar to its predecessor, the Osmo Action 3, with dimensions of 1.7 by 2.8 by 1.3 inches (HWD) and a weight of approximately 5.1 ounces. It’s waterproof up to 18 meters (59 feet) without requiring housing and features a magnetic and clamp mounting system. It has two color touchscreens: a 1.4-inch front screen and a 2.25-inch rear screen, with three physical buttons for easy operation.
Connectivity and Storage
Includes a USB-C port and a microSD card slot supporting up to 512 GB.

Features a new 1/1.3-inch sensor with 10 megapixels of resolution, capable of capturing more light and detail, especially in low-light conditions. It can shoot up to 4K video at 120 fps and supports a 10-bit D-Log M color mode for enhanced post-processing.

Offers four stabilization modes: RockSteady 3.0, RockSteady 3.0+, HorizonBalancing, and HorizonSteady, ensuring smooth and steady footage across various conditions.

DJI Osmo Azione 3
Design
The camera has a modular design, is waterproof up to 16m, and features dual touchscreens. It’s designed for easy horizontal and vertical mounting and can operate in temperatures as low as minus four degrees.

Capable of shooting sharp 4K videos at 120fps, with Horizon Leveling for tilts up to 45 degrees at 4K and 360-degree rotation at 2.7K. It also supports hyperlapse and timelapse videos with a super-wide 155° FOV.

RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady features ensure steady and smooth video output, even on uneven terrains.

Features three built-in mics with wind-noise reduction, supports external mics via USB-C or a 3.5mm adapter, and includes voice controls and commands for improved accessibility.
DJI Osmo Azione 2
Design
The Action 2 features a 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor, a single button on top, an expansion port at the base, and a glass housing covering the front with an F2.8 lens offering a 155º field of view. The camera’s bottom is magnetized for easy mounting, and it weighs just 56 grams (~2 ounces) with dimensions of 39 x 39 x 22.3mm.

It includes a user-friendly interface with a 1.76″ OLED touchscreen on the rear and a single button on top for easy operation.
Batteria
The camera has its own battery and 32GB of internal storage (22GB usable), functioning as a standalone device. Battery life extends from 70 to 160 minutes when shooting 1080/30p with the front touchscreen module, and up to 3 hours with the battery pack.

Features HorizonSteady stabilization mode for maintaining stable horizon lines up to 2.7K resolutions and below, with a minor crop due to digital stabilization. RockSteady 2.0 also minimizes camera shake.
