The best method for you might depend on what camera you’re using, how many files you’ve got, their sizes, and how much space you have on your computer:

Using an SD Adapter – The Fastest & Easiest Way

  • Slide your MicroSD card into an Adaptador SD, then insert the adapter into your computer. This method is quick and efficient for transferring media.
  • Hit the Windows Key+E to launch File Explorer, where you’ll find your SD card listed on the left sidebar under [This PC].
  • Navigate by double-clicking on your SD card to reveal two main folders: DCIM and MISC.
  • Enter the [DCIM folder] to find a folder labeled 100GOPRO. (If you have an extensive collection of pictures or videos, exceeding 9999, look for folders named 101GOPRO, 102GOPRO, 103GOPRO, and so on.)

Here’s what you can pick from:

  • Import photos and videos with the Photos app: Selecting this will open the Photos app, where you can import your files directly.
  • Open the device to view files with File Explorer: This option opens File Explorer for you to browse your camera’s files.
  • Take no action: If you select this, nothing happens, and you can decide what to do next on your own.

Just a heads up: Don’t forget to turn on your camera when you’re transferring your photos and videos directly from it. If your camera is off, your computer won’t be able to access the goodies on your card!

  • Double-click on your camera.
  • Double-click on GoPro MTP Client Disc Volume.

  • Connect your GoPro to your computer using a Cable USB, or use a card reader to insert your microSD card.
  • Remember to power on your camera if you’re connecting it directly.
  • Quik will recognize your GoPro content and start importing your files automatically.

According to GoPro’s official website, this functionality is guaranteed for the HERO 7 Black and older models. While newer models like the Hero 11 may also work, it’s not officially confirmed. I’ve personally tried it with my Hero 11, and it worked seamlessly.

There are 3 main  ways to transfer your videos from the GoPro to your computer:

SD Card Adapter

SD Card Adapter Got an SD adapter for your MicroSD card? Simply slot your MicroSD card into the adapter, then plug the adapter into your computer.

  • Launch a new Finder window on your Mac. Look for your SD card listed under the “devices” section on the left.
  • Double-click your SD card to open it, and you’ll find two main folders: DCIM and MISC.
  • Click into the DCIM folder. Here, you’ll find a folder labeled 100GOPRO. (If you’ve snapped more than 9999 pictures or videos, you might see additional folders like 101GOPRO, 102GOPRO, 103GOPRO, and so on).
  • You can now easily drag and drop your files from the SD card directly onto your computer.

Image Capture or Direct Camera Connection

  • Click on the magnifying glass at the top-right corner of your desktop.
  • Type “Image Capture” in the Spotlight search. Connect your camera to the computer using a USB cable, or insert the SD card directly into the computer.
  • Image Capture will launch and display your files. Choose where you want to import your files. Select the specific files you wish to import and then click on [Download], or opt to download all files.

GoPro Quik

GoPro Quik is a complimentary software you can download to easily move your GoPro files to your Mac. You’ll also need a Cable USB for this method.

  • Connect the USB-C cable from your GoPro to your Mac.
  • Power on your GoPro.
  • Open LaunchPad from the Dock.
  • Search for “quik” and open the GoPro Quik application.
  • To save files directly to your Desktop, proceed to the final step.
  • Select “Import All” to transfer your files.

Nota: This feature primarily supports HERO 7 Black and older camera models. Compatibility with newer models via USB may vary.

Remember, Quik for Desktop cannot import files larger than 4GB. For larger files, consider using the previously mentioned methods.
