Difference in Features
When comparing the DJI Avata and the Mini 3 Pro, there are notable differences in their features.
Let me explain you these distinctions:
Design
The DJI Mini 3 Pro, belonging to the Mavic series, features a foldable and compact design, weighing just 249 grams. It can easily fit into your pocket when folded.
In contrast, the DJI Avata maintains a compact design but has a higher weight of 410 grams.
Rather than foldable arms, it incorporates smaller propellers housed within built-in propeller guards.
These propeller guards provide an added advantage as they allow the Avata to bounce off objects in the event of a crash, reducing the likelihood of damage.
On the other hand, the Mini 3 Pro’s arms and propellers are more vulnerable to damage upon impact. Another notable design difference is the gimbal system employed by each drone.
The Mini 3 Pro features a 3-axis gimbal, enabling more extensive camera movement and stabilization.
Conversely, the Avata utilizes a single-axis gimbal, limiting camera movement and requiring the drone to be flown facing forward, similar to operating an aircraft.
The DJI Avata and Mini 3 Pro employ different battery and component designs. The Avata battery is openly located in a cage at the top, with the remaining components positioned below it.
At the same time, the Mini 3 Pro houses the battery internally within the drone’s structure.
Camera Capabilities
The DJI Avata and DJI Mini 3 Pro offer impressive camera capabilities, although they have distinct strengths based on their intended purposes.
The Mini 3 Pro has a slightly larger sensor size (1/1.3) compared to the Avata (1/1.7). This larger sensor allows the Mini 3 Pro to capture better-quality images, even in low-light conditions.
In terms of slow-motion capabilities, the DJI Avata outshines the Mini 3 Pro. The Avata can shoot slow-motion footage at 2.7K at 60fps, while the Mini 3 Pro does not have this feature.

The Mini 3 Pro has a narrower FOV at 82 degrees.
Both drones offer image stabilization technologies to ensure smoother footage.
The Avata features RockSteady and HorizonSteady stabilization, which work similarly to or slightly better than the Mini 3 Pro’s stabilization, particularly at high speeds. However, flying the Mini 3 Pro at a slower pace can help maintain smooth footage.
One advantage of the DJI Avata is its internal storage capacity.
It provides 20GB of internal storage, allowing you to store a significant amount of footage directly on the drone.
In comparison, the Mini 3 Pro only has 1.2GB of internal storage and relies on SD cards for additional storage.
While both drones support shooting in D-Cinelike, the DJI Mini 3 Pro offers an additional advantage.
It can shoot in 10-bit color depth, providing a more extensive color profile. With 10-bit, you get access to 1.07 billion colors, while Avata’s 8-bit color depth offers 16.7 million colors.

While the Avata offers Normal, Sport, and Manual modes, the Mini 3 Pro provides a wider range of intelligent flight modes that enhance your creative possibilities.
The Mini 3 Pro includes intelligent flight modes such as FocusTrack, Mastershots, Hyperlapse, and Quickshots.
These modes enable you to effortlessly create and edit cinematic footage while on the move.
With FocusTrack, you can track and capture subjects accurately, while Mastershots automatically generates professional-quality footage with pre-programmed camera movements and composition.
Hyperlapse allows you to create stunning time-lapse videos, and Quickshots provide ready-to-share aerial shots with just a few taps on the controller.
These intelligent flight modes empower you to unlock your creativity and capture impressive footage with ease.
The DJI Avata’s focus is primarily on FPV flying experiences, offering Normal, Sport, and Manual modes for greater control over the drone’s movements.
While these modes cater to specific flying styles, they do not provide the same level of automated and creative capabilities as the intelligent flight modes found in the Mini 3 Pro.

The DJI Avata incorporates downward and Time of Flight (TOF) sensors, which primarily focus on detecting objects below the drone.
While Avata’s obstacle avoidance system provides effective downward detection, it may have limitations in detecting obstacles from other directions.
The Avata’s design, combined with its propeller guards, offers greater control over the drone, making it more suitable for indoor flying and providing added protection against accidental collisions.
This makes the Avata a viable choice for capturing footage in confined spaces and conducting house tours, especially when considering its excellent camera capabilities.
Flight Time
Regarding flight time, the DJI Mini 3 Pro excels with a flight time of up to 31 minutes.
An optional 40-minute battery upgrade is available for extended flight time, although it would require registration due to exceeding the 250-gram weight limit.
In comparison, the DJI Avata promises an 18-minute flight time, but in practical use, it may provide around 15 minutes of flight time. While this may seem relatively short for a camera drone, it is a satisfactory flight time for FPV or Cinewhoop drones.
Both the DJI Avata and DJI Mini 3 Pro feature intelligent batteries designed to discharge and stop charging automatically when they reach full capacity.
This feature helps prevent issues commonly associated with Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries, ensuring safer and more reliable operation.

Controllers
The DJI Mini 3 Pro, being a camera drone, comes with the RC-N1 controller.
This controller features basic joysticks and gimbal dials to control the drone’s movement and camera positioning while flying. To view the live footage, you need to connect your smartphone to the controller.
Alternatively, you can opt for the DJI RC smart controller, which has a built-in screen, eliminating the need for a smartphone. This setup allows you to record videos in up to 4K resolution, while the live stream will be limited to 1080p or lower based on the strength of the connection.
With this setup, you have everything you need to capture cinematic footage.
The DJI Avata is an FPV drone that comes with a Motion Controller for a unique and immersive experience.
You can view the drone’s footage exclusively through the DJI Goggles 2, resembling the view from the drone’s cockpit.
These goggles offer a 1080p resolution, include diopter adjustment dials for personalized focus, and support Wi-Fi transmission.
What makes the Avata experience even more exciting is the Head Tracking Mode, where you can control the drone’s movements by moving your head. This enhances the feeling of being fully immersed in the flight experience.
