The new Insta360 Ace Pro 2 was launched just 11 months after its predecessor, the Insta360 Ace Pro.

While this latest model introduces exciting features like 8K video resolution and AI-enhanced capabilities, it also comes with a $150 price increase.

But is it really worth the upgrade?

In this article, you’ll find a breakdown of the Insta360 Ace Pro 2’s specs, features, and a comparison to both the Insta360 Ace Pro and GoPro Hero 13 so that you can make an informed decision.

New Features Of The Insta360 Ace Pro 2

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 introduces several refinements and a few standout new features, though it may feel more like an incremental update than a revolutionary leap. Here’s what’s been added and how it enhances daily use for creators:

8K Video at 30 FPS

One of the headline features is 8K video recording at 30 FPS. This resolution bump allows for incredibly detailed footage, which is particularly useful if you’re planning to view or edit on large screens or need extra flexibility for cropping during post-production.

Keep in mind that 8K files are significantly larger, which could lead to increased storage needs and longer editing times. For casual users, 8K might be more of a “nice-to-have” rather than an essential upgrade over 4K.

Dual AI Chip System 

The Ace Pro 2 is equipped with a dual AI chip system—one chip dedicated to imaging and the other for overall performance. This setup boosts processing power, especially helpful for demanding features like AI-powered noise reduction (PureVideo Plus) and Clarity Zoom.

Enhanced Low-Light Performance

With the new PureVideo Plus and AI-driven image processing, the Ace Pro 2 offers better low-light clarity compared to its predecessor. This can be particularly valuable for capturing evening scenes or cityscapes without sacrificing too much detail or introducing excessive grain. 

PureVideo Plus is designed to reduce noise in low-light settings, delivering clearer footage in dark environments. While the improvement is noticeable, it’s not drastically different from the original Ace Pro’s low-light performance, so don’t expect a night-and-day change.

Flip-Out Touchscreen 

The Ace Pro 2 adds a 2.5-inch flip touchscreen to make vlogging and framing shots easier from various angles. The flip design improves flexibility, especially if you’re filming solo or need to adjust your shot on the go.

It’s especially useful for vloggers and travelers looking for a straightforward way to monitor their framing. Just note that the screen size is still fairly compact, so visibility in bright conditions may be challenging.

Active HDR and FlowState Stabilization

Another enhanced feature is Active HDR and FlowState Stabilization, Insta360’s answer to achieving smoother, more vivid footage even in dynamic conditions.

While these were already present in the original Ace Pro, the improvements aim to provide better control over both shadow and highlight details, helping to retain quality in high-contrast scenes.

FlowState Stabilization has been fine-tuned for a more gimbal-like effect, although it doesn’t replace a physical gimbal for highly dynamic shots.

Improved Audio

One practical addition is the removable Wind Guard, designed to reduce wind noise during outdoor shoots or high-speed activities.

This feature allows for clearer audio without needing an external microphone in windy environments, making it easier to capture quality sound while on the move.

While the removable Wind Guard improves audio quality by reducing wind noise, the overall audio system remains mostly the same.

The camera still benefits from an external microphone for high-quality sound capture, which makes it less than ideal for vloggers or content creators who rely on built-in audio.

Extended Battery Life and Charging Options

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 has a slightly extended battery capacity of 1,400mAh, offering about 10-15% more recording time than its predecessor. This translates to roughly 90 minutes of 4K recording at 30 FPS, or around 55-60 minutes at 8K due to higher processing demands.

It also supports USB-C fast charging, allowing a 50% charge in 30 minutes and full charge in about 90 minutes. While this extension helps, users aiming for extended shoots may still need extra batteries or external charging options, as battery life remains modest compared to competitors.

Insta360 Ace Pro vs Ace Pro 2: What Remains Unchanged?

While the Ace Pro 2 does introduce a few new features, a lot remains similar to the original model. In this section, you’ll find what features remained the same as in the previous model:

Familiar Build and Design

The Ace Pro 2 maintains the rugged, compact build of the original Ace Pro, continuing to offer a waterproof rating up to 12 meters (39 feet) without additional housing.

This feature is still excellent for those shooting in wet or rough environments, but for deeper dives, you’ll need a case, just as with the Ace Pro. The overall design is durable but slightly bulkier than some alternatives, making it great for durability but not ideal for users seeking a slim, ultra-portable action camera.

Reliable 1/1.3-Inch Sensor and Leica Lens

Both the Ace Pro and Ace Pro 2 feature the 1/1.3-inch sensor with a Leica lens, which delivers good quality for both photos and videos. While the sensor isn’t the largest available, it does capture decent detail and provides good low-light capability when combined with the AI noise reduction.

The smaller sensor size can limit dynamic range and sharpness in very high-contrast situations, making it a bit less versatile than larger sensors found in some competing models.

Active HDR and AI-Powered Features

Both models include Active HDR and AI-powered features, though the Ace Pro 2’s AI capabilities are a bit more robust thanks to its dual AI chips.

These features improve low-light shots and detail but aren’t a complete transformation from the Ace Pro. Active HDR remains a highlight, though it tends to be most noticeable in controlled lighting, while extreme conditions  still challenge the camera’s range and color accuracy.

GoPro Hero 13 vs Insta360 Ace Pro 2

With both cameras released close to each other, it’s natural to compare the GoPro Hero 13 and Insta360 Ace Pro 2.

Each one brings its own strengths, depending on what matters most to you.

Video Resolution and Slow Motion

While the Ace Pro 2 can shoot in 8K at 30 FPS, the GoPro Hero 13 tops out at 5.3K. If ultra-high resolution is essential for your projects, the Ace Pro 2 may seem more appealing, though GoPro’s color science and dynamic range still hold strong for many creators.

For slow motion, GoPro can capture 1080p at an impressive 400 FPS, while Insta360’s Ace Pro 2 does 4K at 120 FPS, offering a bit more flexibility in quality for high-speed scenes.

AI and Imaging Features

The dual AI chips in the Ace Pro 2 are a unique feature, focusing on image enhancement, especially in low-light scenarios. In contrast, the Hero 13 doesn’t have a dedicated AI chip but instead relies on refined software features.

This AI boost in the Ace Pro 2 might help if you’re often in challenging lighting, but GoPro’s color accuracy and contrast are still standout features for those who prioritize true-to-life visuals.

Mounting and Accessories

The GoPro Hero 13 introduces magnetic mounting system, which many find convenient for quick setups. Insta360’s Ace Pro 2 uses it as well.

Insta360’s flip screen can make vlogging setups more straightforward, so if you prioritize self-recording and framing, the Ace Pro 2’s design might fit better.

Wireless Audio Support

Audio can be a deciding factor, especially for content creators.

The Ace Pro 2 supports wireless microphone connections, an area where GoPro falls short. For those looking to capture high-quality audio without mic adapters, Insta360 has the edge.

Insta360 Ace Pro 2: Worth The Upgrade?

While the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 brings some fresh updates, it’s not a major overhaul from the original Ace Pro.

The new features, like 8K recording and dual AI chips, sound impressive, but they may not make a huge difference in day-to-day use, especially if you’re already happy with the Ace Pro.

With a $150 price bump, it’s worth asking yourself if the extra features are essential for your needs.

If you’re considering the upgrade, think about how much you’ll use those new capabilities.

For many, sticking with the Ace Pro could be the smarter (and more budget-friendly) choice as the original Ace Pro still delivers excellent quality and performance without the added cost.
