Some Tips For Beginners
Below mentioned are some of the amazing tips that will help you edit your GoPro footage using the Quik App easily. These little changes can make a huge impact on the output video. Read on to get all the magic details.

Cut and Trim, Crop and Reframe
You can snag a high-quality frame from any video and save it. Frame accurate trimming controls ensure that you only include the good parts. You can use different options to edit the clip like changing the aspect ratio, rotating, changing the horizon level, zooming the clip, and more. Trimming and Reframing the clips can get you the best possible results for the final video.
Remove the Background Noise
To give a more professional-quality look to your video, it is important to remove the unwanted noises. The noise can be referred to as the sound of the wind or people or others. You can use different filters to reduce the level of background noise.
Correct Fisheye
If you use wide or superview angles to shoot your video, you must be aware of the distorted edges. To give the video a quality look, remove the distorted edges which are called fisheye distortion.
Change the Speed of the Video
Speed is an important aspect when comes to editing videos. You can either create smooth slow-motion GoPro videos or you can speed up the video to skip the repeated parts. Change the speed of multiple sections of your video with speed ramping. You can also toggle freeze-frame to stop time aka that particular frame from the clip.
Use Effects and Filters
Adding Effects or Color Adjust gives a new look to your video. Let Quik use auto adjust or manually control exposure, contrast, vibrance, temperature, shadows, and highlights. There are numerous filters available for you to choose from. Select the filter that fits your picture or video the best and gives it a surreal environment.
Use Soundtracks to make the Video more Appealing
GoPro Quik offers 10 free music tracks and lots of choices for background music. Add a suitable soothing or thrilling track to your video to convey the joyous moments of your adventure in a fun way.
Use Stickers
You can easily get real-time animated overlays that display your speed, altitude, track position, and G forces. Stickers give a more appealing look to the video and makes it interesting for the viewers.
Save the Video in a Suitable Format
Finally, the edited video should be saved in a suitable format.
PC video formats: MP4, AVI, WMV, H.264, MPEG, MOV.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the GoPro Quik desktop app still available in 2026?
No. GoPro pulled the Mac version of Quik desktop from the App Store on December 31, 2024, and a Windows version never shipped. Everything now runs through the mobile Quik app on iOS and Android, so that’s what I use for the workflow in this tutorial. For heavier desktop work, GoPro points Premium+ subscribers to the GoPro Player plus HyperSmooth Pro app, and 360 shooters to updated Premiere and After Effects plug-ins.
Do I need a GoPro camera to use the Quik app?
Not anymore. GoPro now sells a standalone Quik subscription (about $9.99/year) aimed at people editing footage from any camera, phone included, with auto edits, filters, and a bigger music library thrown in. The free version of Quik still works fine for GoPro footage using the steps in this guide.
Will these editing steps still work on newer cameras like the Hero 13 Black or the Mission 1 series?
Yes. I filmed the demo on a Hero 12, but the import, HiLight tag, trim, and export workflow in Quik hasn’t changed for newer cameras. GoPro’s 2026 Mission 1 lineup is a separate cinema-focused line that sits alongside the Hero cameras rather than replacing them, so footage from any GoPro still drops into the same Quik mobile workflow.
What happened to GoPro Plus?
GoPro Plus was renamed to GoPro Subscription a while back, and in 2026 GoPro split it further into three tiers: Premium (cloud storage and Quik editing), Premium+ (adds HyperSmooth Pro and up to 500GB storage), and the cheaper Quik-only tier described above. If an older guide mentions GoPro Plus, that’s the same benefit now sold under Premium.
How do I get more music in Quik without paying?
Quik still bundles a handful of free royalty-free tracks (I mention the 10 free songs in the steps above), which is plenty for quick social clips. If you want a deeper library, GoPro’s paid tiers now unlock 300+ original tracks plus premium royalty-free music, so you don’t have to hunt for outside licensed audio.
Can I still edit 360 footage on a computer now that Quik desktop is gone?
Yes, just not inside Quik itself. GoPro shifted 360 desktop editing to updated plug-ins for Adobe Premiere and After Effects, and you can also pull footage into GoPro’s web-based Media Library at GoPro.com for basic review and sharing without installing anything.
