GoPro Hero 5 Session

gopro hero 11 mini vs gopro hero 5 session

A small cube-like camera loaded with multiple features to shoot some crisp and stable footage, the GoPro Hero 5 Session features just two buttons and one side flap that houses the USB-C port and MicroSD card slot. With a single tap on the shutter button that is placed on the top of the camera and also acts as a power button, you can start recording. Without any housing, the camera is waterproof down to 33 feet though its modules aren’t water-resistant without a case. Weighing just about 75 grams, the Session 5 is extremely lightweight and easily portable. You get one of two additional modules in the box, either a front display with a battery or just the battery.

Though its size and weight are greater when compared to the Session 5 it is packed with all the advanced features that are in Hero 11 Black. With SuperView up to 5K60/4K120, Hyperview lens, Hypersmooth 5.0, and many more updated parameters, Mini is an eye-catching model. It is also waterproof down to 33 feet. Video and Photo Resolution

Hero 5 Session tops out at 4K/30fps. In 2.7K resolution, the Hero 5 Session is limited to a maximum of 48fps, while at 1440p – it tops out at 60fps. The overall quality of the video recorded is nice. On the contrary, with a whooping difference, the Hero 11 Mini brings to the table a lot more than Hero 5 session. It features a new 8×7 sensor that’s capable of capturing 5.3K resolution video at 60fps or 4K at 120fps. You can also record up to 8X slo-mo shots in 2.7K resolution. It comes with improved TimeWarp 3.0 and SuperView up to 5K60/4K120.

The Hero 5 Session offers 10MPwith a 4:3 aspect ratio for capturing photos while in Hero 11 Mini, you can not shoot photos (it only captures videos). But, you can get still 24.7 MP resolution from the videos.

Stabilization

The Hero 5 Session does come with in-camera video stabilization that smooths out the unwanted vibrations and jerkiness from the output footage while you are filming on the go. But, the latest stabilization system of Hero 11 Mini i.e Hypersmooth 5.0 with an in-camera 360-degree Horizon Lock. is just phenomenal. Your footage remains crystal clear and steady even if your camera rotates a full 360 degrees during capture. The Hero 11 Mini has by far the best stabilization system among GoPro cameras.

Battery

The Hero 5 session features a 2000 mAh battery that will give you up to 5 hours of battery life. On the other hand, the Hero 11 Mini comes with the latest Enduro battery that offers a big boost in cold temperatures and increases recording times by up to 38% in moderate temperatures. Though the capacity is a bit lower at 1500mAh and the battery is non-removable but that does not prove to be that much of a hindrance to the overall performance.

Field of View

The Hero 5 Session offers a 150-degree wide FOV at 2.7K max. But in Hero 11 Mini, with the new hyper-immersive HyperView digital lens, you can enjoy the widest angle 16:9 shot ever produced natively in a GoPro Hero camera.

Read more about HyperView and FOV here: GoPro Hero 11 FOV (Field of View Settings Explained).

Price

The GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini is the latest addition to the GoPro family and for obvious reasons is priced a little more than the GoPro Hero 5 Session. The Hero 11 Mini costs $299.98 with a 1-year GoPro subscription or $399.99 without the subscription. Whereas, the Hero 5 Session costs $100 lower at $199.99 with a 1-year GoPro subscription.

Which One Will You Choose?

Both the cameras are compact and very easy to carry on all your future journeys but chipping in a few extra bucks with GoPro Hero 11 Mini will give you some surprising results.

The Hero 11 Mini is designed keeping in mind all the needs of travelers and filmmakers. Hero 5 Session is a fine model launched back in 2018 with average stabilization and mediocre features as compared to the latest talk of the town – GoPro Hero 11 Mini.
