Key Differences

Here are the key differences between the GoPro Hero 10 Black and the GoPro Hero 7 Black action cameras:

Design

gopro designs comparison

The design of the GoPro Hero 10 and Hero 7 Black have some similarities, but there are also some noticeable differences between the two models. The Hero 10 is slightly bulkier and heavier than Hero 7, which may be a factor to consider for those who prefer a more compact and lightweight camera.

GoPro Hero 10 has a more modern design with a larger touchscreen. It features a 2.27-inch, rear-facing touchscreen display, while the Hero 7 Black has a 2-inch touchscreen display. The larger touchscreen on the Hero 10 makes it easier to navigate through menus and settings, and it provides a better viewing experience when reviewing footage. It also has a slightly slimmer bezel around the screen, giving it a more streamlined appearance.

Another difference in design is the placement of the power/mode button. On the Hero 10, the power/mode button is located on the left side of the camera, while on the Hero 7 Black, it is located on the top. This placement change may take some getting used to, but it allows for easier access to the button when the camera is mounted on a selfie stick or other accessory. Additionally, the Hero 10 has a new lens cover design that is removable and replaceable. This allows users to replace a damaged lens cover instead of having to replace the entire camera. The Hero 7 Black, on the other hand, has a fixed lens cover that cannot be replaced.

Overall, the design differences between the GoPro Hero 10 and Hero 7 Black are relatively minor, but the larger touchscreen and new lens cover design of the Hero 10 may be compelling factors for those looking for a more advanced action camera.

Video Quality

Resolution and Frame Rate are very important when comes to the selection of a good-quality action camera. The Hero 10 can shoot video in 5.3K resolution at up to 60 fps, 4K resolution at up to 120fps, and 1080p resolution at up to 240fps. While the Hero 7 Black can shoot in 4K resolution at up to 60 fps and 1080p resolution at up to 240 fps. This means that the Hero 10 can capture footage with more detail and clarity, especially when viewed on a larger screen.

The Hero 10 has a maximum bitrate of 100Mbps, while the Hero 7 Black has a maximum bitrate of 78Mbps resulting in smoother and more detailed footage by Hero 10. Also, the Hero 10 features improved High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology compared to the Hero 7 Black. HDR allows for better contrast and color accuracy, resulting in more vibrant and lifelike footage. The Hero 10 can shoot HDR video in 4K resolution at up to 30 fps, while the Hero 7 Black can only shoot HDR video in 1080p resolution.

Photo Quality

The Hero 10 can capture 23MP photos, while the Hero 7 can capture 12MP photos. The Hero 10 also features improved HDR processing, which results in more vibrant and detailed photos. TheHigh Dynamic Range (HDR) allows for better contrast and color accuracy in photos, resulting in more vibrant and lifelike images.

Speed

GoPro Hero 10 is twice as fast as the GoPro Hero 7 Black which comes with a GP1 processor. Hero 10 features GoPro’s new GP2 processor, which allows for faster image processing and better image quality. The improved processing power allows the Hero 10 to capture more vibrant and detailed colors, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Stabilization

Both the cameras, Hero 10 and Hero 7 Black feature GoPro’s HyperSmooth image stabilization technology. However, the Hero 10 features HyperSmooth 4.0, which is an improved version of the software. HyperSmooth 4.0 provides even more stable footage, especially when shooting in challenging conditions such as low light or high-speed action.

Battery Performance

Battery Life is essential, especially on outdoor shoots. GoPro Hero 10 has a slightly larger battery capacity than the Hero 7 Black. GoPro Hero 10 features a 1720mAh battery, while the Hero 7 Black has a 1220mAh battery. This means that the Hero 10 will be able to last longer on a single charge.

The Hero 10 is rated for up to 1 hour and 20 minutes of continuous 5.3K video recording at 60fps, while the Hero 7 Black is rated for up to 1 hour and 30 minutes of continuous 4K video recording at 60fps. However, it’s worth noting that actual battery life may vary depending on factors such as settings, temperature, and usage.

Both the cameras support fast charging, but the Hero 10’s fast charging is slightly faster. It can charge from 0 to 80% in just 45 minutes with a 30W charger, while the Hero 7 Black takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to charge from 0 to 80% with a 27W charger.

Price

The GoPro Hero 10 is a newer and more advanced model compared to the Hero 7 Black, and it is generally priced higher. Hero 10 is priced at USD 399, while the Hero 7 Black was priced at around USD 249.

While the Hero 7 Black is a more affordable option, it is important to note that it does not have some of the advanced features and capabilities of the Hero 10, such as improved video quality, faster processing, and better low-light performance. So if you need these advanced features, it may be worth the investment to go for the Hero 10. However, if you are on a budget or do not need all of the latest features, the Hero 7 Black may be a more affordable and practical choice.

 What Remains Unchanged?

Here’s what remains the same in both models:

Waterproofing

Both the action cameras are waterproof down to 33 feet (10 meters). If you want to take the camera deeper than that, such as while deep-sea diving, you’ll need a waterproof housing case.

If you want to go deeper you have to protect your GoPro by using waterproof case.

Last Words Of Advice

The Hero 10 offers improved video and photo quality, faster processing, better low-light performance, and some advanced features such as HyperSmooth 4.0 and TimeWarp 3.0. I would go for this camera!

It also has a slightly larger battery capacity and faster charging times.

Whereas, the Hero 7 Black is a more affordable option that still offers excellent video and photo quality, as well as features such as voice control, waterproofing, and a touchscreen display.

While it may not have all of the advanced features of the Hero 10, it is still a capable and practical choice for those on a budget or who do not need all of the latest features.

Note, that Hero 7 has been discontinued, so it’s hard to find it available on the market.
