Inside you\u2019ll find the instruction manual, stickers, a USB-C to USB-C charging cable, and the Hero 13 Black itself. The new battery is included, but note it upfront: <strong>this battery is not backwards compatible with Hero 12, 11, or 10<\/strong>. The front now has a <strong>heat sync<\/strong> designed to reduce overheating \u2014 a real-world problem with earlier models during extended recording sessions with no airflow. How much it helps in practice becomes clear during longer field tests, but it\u2019s a direct response to a known complaint.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De <strong>form factor is identical<\/strong> to Hero 12, 11, and 10. This means underwater cases, media mods, and mounts designed for those cameras fit the Hero 13 without modification. The only exception is the battery \u2014 because GoPro changed the battery design, older batteries from Hero 12 and earlier will not work in the Hero 13.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>GPS is back<\/strong>. It was absent on the Hero 12, which frustrated users who use GoPro for tracking ski runs, bike rides, or hikes without needing to carry a separate phone. The Hero 13 restores it, and it integrates with GoPro Quik for overlaying speed and route data on your footage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Features: Lenses, HDR, and WiFi 6<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hero 13\u2019s interchangeable lens system is a genuine differentiator. The camera <strong>auto-detects which lens is attached<\/strong> when you swap \u2014 no fumbling through settings to tell it what you\u2019ve mounted. The micro lens lets you get extremely close-up shots with a blurred background effect. An anamorphic lens for cinematic wide-angle footage was also announced.
