The footage shot by GoPro is almost always appealing to the viewer, however, you must ensure that your GoPro<\/strong> has the best color settings<\/strong> if you want truly cinematic and professional-looking shots.<\/p>\n

Please note that there\u2019s no such a ‘universal’ best color setting that is good for all filming situations. <\/span><\/p>\n

It all depends upon whether you’re planning to edit your footage<\/strong> or you are just recording some clips that you don’t plan to retouch that much.<\/span><\/p>\n

GoPro Protune Color: Flat vs GoPro Color<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Before proceeding further, let’s first discuss what GoPro Protune<\/strong> means. Well, Protune is what GoPro calls its settings which control several aspects of its shots, like sharpness of the image, color, ISO etc. Although these settings are often misunderstood or ignored by many new GoPro users, they are extremely important to achieve quality captures.<\/p>\n

In the newer GoPro models, there’s a choice between two color modes<\/strong> in the Protune color mode settings: GoPro Color <\/strong>and Flat<\/strong>. You should note that you’ll only see these settings if you turn Protune on. The GoPro color <\/strong>mode is the default setting, and you can manually change it to Flat<\/strong> if you wish to.<\/p>\n

Now, the question arises as to what\u2019s the difference between the two. Here\u2019s the answer. GoPro color<\/strong> mode<\/strong> adds a specific color style directly in-camera. It gives you an image that is visibly more vibrant<\/strong> and with a higher contrast. Flat color<\/strong> mode<\/strong>, on the other hand, gives a raw look<\/strong> without any editing. It results in a low-contrast image with no filter applied.<\/p>\n

As you can see, the most obvious difference is in the contrast. The images captured with GoPro color<\/strong> mode undoubtedly look much more appealing right out of the camera, however, they are not meant for color grading, and neither for applying custom LUT filters.<\/p>\n
